~Using Napkins as Tabletop Decor at Your Event~

The way you display your napkins are one of those things that you may not pay attention to throughout the planning process and that may not seem important, BUT it’s one of the little details that makes your tabletop what it is and greets your guests when they sit down to dinner. Who doesn’t love a well thought out and displayed table setting? I do! These aren’t typical banquet folds, though. I  am keen on simple and sleek napkins that add more to a table than any bird of paradise or fan fold can offer.

The first of my favorites is a tuck fold, in which there is space left for a nice menu to be tucked into the front. Aside from a menu, you can tuck in a grouping of flowers or herbs or just lie them on top of the napkin that encloses your menu.

Along the same lines is a cute band wrapped around the center of the napkin and made out of anything your heart desires. Type your menu on the band, wrap with a sweet piece of ribbon, burlap or twine or according to Martha, use wall paper! Add a little oomph to these, too, with a floral accent.

Another favorite is a tri-fold napkin nicely draped over the edge of your table and topped with a coordinating charger or menu. It adds more to the edges of your tables and draws the eye around it, as a whole, instead of just atop it.

And then there’s those that are more three dimensional and unique. I have to admit, I love the bow tie napkin fold. It’s adorable!  For a garden event, fill up a napkin grouping with a bunch of florals and really add color to your place settings. It’s amazing how a napkin can add to the decor of your event but boy can it! Though the fold might be the same, what you add onto the top of it or tucked inside will completely change the look.
